Years 3 & 4

This term we have lots of different things happening!! We welcome back Mr Cook who will be sharing the teaching over the next few weeks. Some of our work will be focused around the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics, we also have a visit to the Almonry in Evesham which will round off last term’s work on the Anglo- Saxons and look forward to the exchange of visits with Colmore School from Birmingham. Of course at the end of the term there will be the usual end of year events along with the Year 4 leavers’ service and party!!

In literacy we will be following the usual routine of learning set spellings for a week and these will need practise at home alongside daily reading. Grammar and other aspects of language will be covered through the topics of poetry and persuasive writing.

Numeracy will rotate through various topics. These will include place value, ordering and rounding. Written and mental skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division will be practised using real life and money problems. The children will be encouraged to make decisions and check their work through. Topics covering shape, space, time, measuring, fractions and decimals will also be included.

In science the class will be studying habitats, variation and classification as well as comparing different habitats and studying living things in the environment- weather permitting!! We will also look at how animals adapt to their environment and their position in the food chain.

The geography topic this term is a study of life in a village in India, looking at the climate, landscape and human features of the area.

Design technology will be looking at mechanisms involving links and levers.

Art work will be integrated into most subjects and will focus on patterns.

R.E. this term will include a visit to Church, led by Rev. Susan, as part of the topic on places of worship and the meaning of symbols in religion.

This term the class will continue swimming sessions at the pool and also practise various athletic activities in P.E.

Martin will still be visiting to take the class for music and trumpet lessons.

I.C.T. will be cross-curricular but also we will be studying a data handling unit.

In P.S.H.E. the topic for the term is growing and changing and we will be looking at how we alter as we grow up- correct names for body parts will be used and talked about.

So we look forward to a busy few weeks on the  way to the summer break!
