School Values and Vision

'Through faith, friendship and fun we learn and grow'

Faith

Faith in God.  Faith in ourselves.  Faith in those around us.

Through stories such as Noah's Ark and Daniel and the lion's den we learn about the importance of having faith in God, ourselves and in those around us.  Being faithful to God requires both belief in God and in living a good life; treating other people with respect, compassion and kindness and forgiving when they do things that are wrong.

Friendship

Being a good friend to others.  Being a good friend to ourselves.

Through stories such as The Good Samaritan and The Lost Sheep we learn about caring for people.  We learn about the importance of being kind and respectful to others.  We learn about people from all around the world and celebrate different cultures and beliefs from across the globe, celebrating differences and similarities.  The Good Samaritan teaches us that it was someone who the injured man would not normally have spent time with or known that came to help him.  We seek to be these Good Samaritans to others.

Fun

Having fun celebrating ourselves, our world and one another.

Celebrating the special occasions throughout the Christian year allows us to give thanks to God and to have fun together.  One of these occasions is Christmas, when we remember the birth of Jesus, where God gave humanity the gift of His son.  God gave this gift of Jesus because He loves us and wants us to be happy.

Learning and Growing

We love learning and enjoy a wealth of experiences that help us to grow.

An eagerness to learn, to grow and to continually seek to live our best lives is central to the Christian faith.  One of the many names Jesus is called throughout his life is "Rabbi" meaning "Teacher".  At the Sermon on the Mount Jesus preached to a large crowd Jesus taught a large crowd how to be faithful to God by living good lives.

Our Christian Values:

Faith, friendship and fun are at the root of all of our learning and growing at Defford-cum-Besford Church of England First School.  As a church school, with a distinctive Christian character and family ethos, we aim to provide an educational, spiritual and moral framework in which all children can grow, develop and achieve their full potential. We nurture and support a strong foundation of traditional values, to equip children for the challenges of a modern and ever changing world.

We use the following Christian Values to help us to live out our school vision.  They shape the experience of everyone involved in our school.

  • Friendship
  • Respect
  • Perseverance
  • Trust
  • Forgiveness
  • Truthfulness
